I save mine with a transparent background, because that's what is easiest for me to work with on the Glowforge.

You can use a free online converter to convert your recipe PNG into an SVG if that is what you are selling. Touch up if needed, but if you've followed the original to a T, you won't need to do much – if any – touching up. Once you've finished writing over every part of the recipe, remove the original recipe layer and see how it looks.Sometimes you'll get a recipe that you can just flow with, but because many of these are decades old, the writing styles are much different than ours are today. There are so many nuances from person to person (like where the letter begins and ends, how much pressure is applied, etc) that I've found it's best to do just a few letters at a time for accuracy. Once you get in a flow, it's easier to write more like their handwriting. Small, short strokes to match the writing. Instead of trying to copy the penmanship exactly, treat this more like an image. Start writing over the recipe, one letter at a time.
This is optional but I learned this tip from someone who sells a LOT of these, so I use it! Click on the technical pen again and adjust the streamline up to 100%. You don't want it to be too thin, or it won't engrave well. Choose the technical pen and adjust the brush size according to the recipe you are rewriting.Then, add another layer so you can write over it (and remove the original recipe layer later). Click the wrench tool, and click “add a photo”.Offering one standard size for your customers is fine, just make sure it's a size most will use so you can get the most sales.
I do 4″圆″ or 8″x12″ depending on the board I'll be engraving onto. Start with the canvas size of your choice.
